What Problems do Chiropractors treat?
Doctors of Chiropractic treat a great many different types of problems but mainly we focus on those conditions that affect your muscles, joints, spine, and nerves.
Problems such as Low Back Pain, Neck pain, Headaches, pain into your Shoulders , Elbows , Arms, Wrists ; Butt, Hips, Knees, Ankles, Feet and Legs ; Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; And Whiplash injuries following Car Accidents or Sport Injuries are just a few examples of what we treat effectively.
In our office we also treat a lot of Cranial and TMJ issues. Which often accompany car accidents, whiplash, and Jaw Injuries; And can also either come from or contribute to: Dental issues, Clenching and Grinding, Headaches, and Facial pain, as well as Spinal problems (even in the low back).
It is only after a thorough examination that ANY doctor can really tell if Chiropractic is the right treatment for you. If we think we can help you (for whatever your condition may be) we tell you. If we think we cannot… we tell you that too and refer you to the most appropriate specialist.
I have been told that Chiropractic can make me worse, is that true?
As with all types of healthcare, there are potential risks in the delivery of treatment. Chiropractic however, is remarkably safe.
One of the biggest keys to safe, effective care is the quality of information the doctor gathers from you during your first visit to our office.
So it is extremely important not to rush through or neglect the initial entrance application forms. The doctor begins by thoroughly discussing your history with you to identify the nature of your problem and whether there might be any red flags to treatment.
Once this is done, and it looks like you are in the right place to start with you will receive a thorough examination so that we can determine exactly and precisely what your problems are and where they come from. We will also determine whether you qualify for chiropractic care in our office. We then develop a treatment plan designed to get directly at the root causes, which is the best way to help you get the most out of your care.
Once all of this information is obtained…and…before any treatment begins, you will receive a complete explanation of your test findings and recommended treatment plan.
This way we can be sure that it is safe and effective, and that you are fully informed before we begin any treatment.
What is an adjustment, what does it do, and is it painful?
Chiropractic adjustments (either by the chiropractors hand or an adjusting tool) are a safe, gentle, and effective way of restoring normal position and movement to the joints, thus decreasing the irritation to the associated nerves. Once these bones or vertebrae are restored to their proper position and movement, the spinal cord and its nerves are no longer irritated, and they can go back to their proper normal function.
Remember that the nervous system makes EVERYTHING in your body work. Once the spine is back in line and functioning properly, and there is no irritation is on the nerves or spinal cord, the body has the ability to get back to normal, be strong, healthy, and heal itself better when injured.
There are many ways to adjust the spine. Some chiropractors use their hands to move the bones while some use instruments or mechanical “tools” to adjust the vertebrae. All techniques work…it’s just that some work better for some people and others work better for others. We just have to find out which works best for you. Our doctors are trained in a variety of techniques to help us treat a wide range of people and conditions.
What is the noise that I hear during the adjustment?
The noise that you hear is similar to when you crack your knuckles. When you get adjusted, the gases that are present in the joint are released. That’s what makes that familiar popping sound. It is not harmful or dangerous, it is not the sound of anything tearing or breaking, it is nothing that anyone needs to be concerned about.
Can you get Chiropractic if you’ve had spinal degeneration, disease, cancer, or surgery?
That depends on your particular case but in many, if not most, instances… yes! The whole purpose of your consultation and examination is to determine if, and what type of chiropractic is both safe, and right for you. Once we gather all information important to your case, if we think we can help you safely… we tell you that. If we can’t… we tell you that too.
Do I need x-rays?
X-rays are taken for your own safety. Sometimes bad things show up on x-rays like old fractures, arthritis, scoliosis and other problems that are important for the doctor to know about before designing and beginning care. This way X-rays can help ensure your best possible results.
We use the latest, state of the art digital equipment and technology which provides less patient exposure, and better quality films to help the doctor see what he or she needs to see to help them design a program of care that’s right for you.
